The Lemonheads Break 20-Year Silence with New Album ‘Love Chant’ and Single ‘Deep End’

Get ready, alt-rock fans! The Lemonheads, led by the iconic Evan Dando, are making a triumphant return with their first album of original material in nearly two decades. The album, titled 'Love Chant,' is slated for release this fall, and the band has already dropped the lead single, 'Deep End,' igniting excitement among fans and critics alike.

'Deep End' isn't just any single; it's a star-studded affair. Juliana Hatfield, a longtime collaborator and former Lemonheads member, lends her vocals to the track, while J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. adds his signature guitar prowess with a blistering solo. The song, co-written by Dando with Australian indie artist Tom Morgan, is described as a "sloppily joyous deadpan riff-pop stomper," promising a return to the band's classic fuzz-pop sound.

Dando expressed his enthusiasm for the music video, stating, "It’s never been so painless making a video. Everyone working was really great. The endless sidewalk goes really well with the song." The video, directed by Carlão Busato and Luigi Parisi, was filmed in Sao Paulo, where Dando recorded 'Love Chant'.

Adding to the excitement, The Lemonheads didn't just release 'Deep End'; they also shared a B-side cover of Townes Van Zandt's 'Sad Cinderella,' featuring a duet with Nashville singer-songwriter Erin Rae. This further showcases the band’s versatility and Dando's long-standing appreciation for classic country music.

The 'Deep End' single and 'Sad Cinderella' cover are available on a limited-edition 12-inch vinyl disc. 'Love Chant', will mark the band's first album of original songs since their self-titled LP in 2006. In the interim, Dando released two covers albums, Varshons (2009) and Varshons 2 (2019), keeping the Lemonheads name alive.

To celebrate their return, The Lemonheads are embarking on a global tour, starting with dates in Australia and New Zealand, followed by a European leg. A North American tour is also in the works, so keep an eye out for announcements soon.
