System Of A Down Fans Ignite South America: Pyro, Pits, and Pure Mayhem

System Of A Down recently wrapped up their first South American tour in a decade, and let's just say, the fans brought the heat – literally. Forget controlled pyrotechnics on stage; concertgoers took matters into their own hands, turning stadiums into fiery spectacles that have the internet buzzing. Was it a war zone? A riot? No, it was a System Of A Down-style Rock & Roll concert, according to guitarist Daron Malakian.

The tour, dubbed the “Wake Up! South America Stadium Tour,” included stops in Colombia, Peru, Argentina, and Brazil – markets the band hadn't visited in some time. Every date sold out, even with added shows, proving the deep connection System Of A Down has with their South American fanbase.

Videos circulating online showcase scenes that defy description. Thousands of people are seen lighting flares, spitting fire (yes, spitting fire!), and creating mosh pits that would make European and American crowds envious. One social media comment perfectly encapsulates the spectacle: 'It’s clear now that all those comments that say “come to Brazil” aren’t bots.' These aren't bots manufacturing their own makeshift pyrotechnics.

Malakian himself captured the frenzy with drone footage shared on Instagram. The band seems to have embraced the chaos. As Malakian noted, “If you notice, we don't have pyro on the stage… but our fans bring the fucking fire.” The band even posted, “This is not a war zone, this is not a riot, this is a System Of A Down style Rock & Roll concert in Brazil!!!!!!!”

The setlists also delivered, featuring rarities like “Arto” and “Attack,” performed for the first time in ten years. While one doubts that SOAD encouraged bringing pyro, the band is definitely not discouraging it.

The South American tour may be over, but System Of A Down has select dates remaining in North America. Will the American crowds be inspired to unleash their own inner pyrotechnician? Only time will tell. Check out their remaining tour schedule:

East Rutherford, NJ @ MetLife Stadium (w/ Korn, Polyphia and Wisp)
Chicago, IL @ Soldier Field (w/ Avenged Sevenfold, Polyphia and Wisp)
Toronto, ON @ Rogers Stadium (w/ Deftones, Polyphia and Wisp)

The South American shows prove that the passion for live music still burns bright, and that System Of A Down can still ignite a crowd like few others. What do you think? Is this the future of live rock shows? Let us know in the comments below!
