Slick Rick Returns After 26 Years with ‘Victory,’ Co-Produced by Idris Elba
Slick Rick, the legendary hip-hop artist, is set to make a triumphant return to the music scene with his first album in 26 years, titled Victory. This highly anticipated release, a follow-up to his 1999 album *The Art of Storytelling*, promises to be a visual and sonic experience, marking a significant moment for fans and the hip-hop community alike.
The album, slated for release on June 13th, is described as a "visual album" and has been executive-produced by both Slick Rick and the acclaimed actor Idris Elba. This collaboration signifies a powerful fusion of music and film, promising a unique artistic experience. A 30-minute film, directed by Meji Alabi (known for their work on Beyoncé's *Black Is King*), will accompany the album, premiering at SXSW London on June 7th and screening at the Tribeca Festival on June 13th.
Slick Rick shared his vision for the album, stating, "Victory is all about perseverance, storytelling, imagination, and evolution. A visual blend of art and heart—a sonic journey that reflects where I’ve been and where I’m going. Victory isn’t just music—it’s a bold in your face statement, showcasing British artistry at its finest!" Idris Elba added, "Working with Slick Rick… back home in the UK, and then offering the world of hip-hop something amazing has been a blessing. It’s literally a gift!"
The album was written and recorded in London and France, while the film was shot across the United States, the United Kingdom, and Africa. *Victory* boasts an impressive lineup of guest appearances, including Nas, Giggs, and Estelle, adding further anticipation to its release.
This comeback follows a series of career challenges faced by Slick Rick, including imprisonment after the release of his debut album, *The Great Adventures Of Slick Rick*. Despite these obstacles, he continued to release music and received a pardon in 2008, paving the way for this long-awaited return.
Speaking of the Tribeca Festival, this year's edition emphasizes the short film format with an unprecedented 93 films premiering. Tribeca 2025, running from June 4th to June 15th, features new works and music videos from Kid Cudi, LL Cool J, and Jack White, creating a dazzling festival experience.

The return of Slick Rick and the premiere of *Victory* promise to be defining moments in hip-hop. Will this album solidify his legacy for a new generation? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
