Metallica Ignites Nashville with Fiery Two-Night Stadium Takeover
Metallica delivered a thunderous performance at Nashville's Nissan Stadium, kicking off a two-night stand on May 1st as part of their epic 'M72 World Tour.' Fans were treated to a spectacle of hits, deep cuts, and pyrotechnics, solidifying the band's legendary status.
The night began with blistering sets from opening acts Suicidal Tendencies and Pantera, setting the stage for Metallica's explosive entrance. The band wasted no time proving their enduring dominance, launching into "Creeping Death" and showcasing a setlist spanning their vast catalog.
Frontman James Hetfield connected with the crowd, expressing gratitude for their unwavering support. "Metallica is here," he declared. "Metallica's family is here. We are super grateful as a band…seeing your faces still blows our mind. Thank you, Metallica family for coming here and supporting our music."
A minor drum kit issue during the show led to an impromptu jam session. Kirk Hammett ignited the crowd with the opening riff of Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water," with Hetfield and bassist Rob Trujillo joining in for a few lines of the classic song. "Sorry, that's how we kill time," Hetfield joked.
The setlist was a careful balance of classics, new tracks from their latest album "Seasons 72," and fan favorites like "Fuel" and "Seek and Destroy.” The show incorporated everything fans could ask for from a Metallica show: a mosh pit, fire, lights, video, guitars, and fireworks. During "Seek and Destroy,” Hetfield even invited the Nashville fans to take over the chorus while batting around huge M72 tour-branded beach balls.
The 'M72 World Tour' is designed with two "no repeat" shows in each city, and Nashville was no exception. The second show on May 3 promised an entirely different setlist with Limp Bizkit and Ice Nine Kills opening. Tour coordinator Jon-Michael Marino said the band is well-versed for any inclement weather. "All the gear here is made to be rain or shine, so as long as we can keep things safe for the fans, the show must go on.”
Adding to the Metallica experience in Nashville, a pop-up shop, art exhibition, and film screening of "Metallica Saved My Life" were held around the city. Fans also had the opportunity to attend a conversation with Kirk Hammett and Gibson Guitars’ Mark Agnesi at the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Beyond the music and spectacle, the Nashville stop of Metallica's 'M72 World Tour' was a celebration of the enduring bond between the band and their devoted fans. Were you at the show? Share your favorite moments in the comments below!
