Lemmy Kilmister Honored with Statue Unveiling and ‘Motörhead Day’ Celebration
Get ready to raise your horns! The legacy of Lemmy Kilmister, the iconic frontman of Motörhead, is being celebrated in a big way. A statue unveiling in Burslem, Staffordshire, and a special "Motörhead Day" on Planet Rock next week are set to honor the man who personified rock 'n' roll rebellion. This isn't just about remembering a musician; it's about celebrating the spirit of Motörhead and the impact Lemmy had on generations of music fans.
The centerpiece of the celebration is the official unveiling of a statue dedicated to Lemmy in his hometown. The Lemmy Forever ceremony will take place on May 9 in Burslem town center. The event promises to be a moving tribute, with Motörhead guitarist Phil Campbell in attendance to place some of Lemmy's ashes within the statue itself.

Sculptor Andy Edwards, a lifelong Lemmy fan, captured Lemmy as he appeared at the Heavy Metal Holocaust in Port Vale in 1981, complete with his signature Rickenbacker 4001 bass. "Lemmy was a personal hero to me," Edwards says. "The reason for making this statue is to give other people that pleasure that I’ve had in thinking back, those memories at Victoria Hall, Bingley Hall and Vale Park."
The celebration extends beyond the unveiling. Grumpy's Bar will host "A Night Of Music To Celebrate The Life Of Lemmy", featuring the Motörhead tribute band Motörwrecker, and an auction of exclusive items supplied by Motörhead's record label and merchandise companies. Additionally, fans can catch Motörheadache, another Motörhead tribute band, at the Mitchell Arts Centre in Hanley.
For those planning to attend the Lemmy Forever ceremony, parking will be available at Port Vale Football Club, and special accommodation rates are available at the DoubleTree by Hilton Stoke-On-Trent.
Adding to the excitement, Planet Rock is dedicating May 8 to Motörhead with special programming, fan interaction, and an incredible giveaway: Lemmy's actual hat! This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to own a piece of rock history.
Motörhead, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, remains a powerful force in music. These tributes serve as a reminder of Lemmy's enduring legacy and the band's impact on heavy metal, punk rock, and rock 'n' roll.
