Lady Gaga Achieves Near-EGOT Status with Sports Emmy Win for Super Bowl LIX Tribute
Lady Gaga is now just one Tony Award away from achieving the coveted EGOT status after winning a Sports Emmy for Outstanding Music Direction. The award recognized her performance of “Hold My Hand” during the pre-game show for Super Bowl LIX on February 9th, broadcast on Fox.

Gaga's emotional rendition of the Top Gun: Maverick single paid tribute to victims of the New Orleans terror attack on New Year’s Eve, Hurricane Helene in Florida and Georgia, and the January wildfires in Los Angeles County. Introduced by NFL legends Tom Brady, Michael Strahan, and Terry Bradshaw, Gaga performed a stripped-down version of the song on Bourbon Street, accompanied by police officers and firefighters.
The 2025 Sports Emmys ceremony, hosted by Roy Wood Jr. on Tuesday, May 20th, at Jazz at Lincoln Center, celebrated excellence in sports television coverage. Lady Gaga shared the award with fellow producers Seth Dudowsky, Bill Richards, Joel Santos, Jesse Weiss, and Brad Zager, and music editor Joe Nargi.

With 14 Grammys and an Oscar for Best Original Song (“Shallow” from *A Star Is Born*), this Sports Emmy brings Gaga tantalizingly close to joining the elite EGOT club. The Emmys official X account even acknowledged her near-miss: “Putting the ‘E’ in @ladygaga’s E-G-O…she’s just short of the T!”
Other notable Sports Emmy winners included Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, and Peyton Manning. David Hill received the Lifetime Achievement award, presented by Fox NFL Sunday hosts.
Only a select few have achieved EGOT status, including Elton John, who recently joined the ranks. Will Lady Gaga be the next artist to complete this monumental accomplishment? Only time, and a Tony Award, will tell.
