Kesha’s Surprising ‘Dreamgirls’ Confession: From Extra to Indie Artist

Before dominating the charts with hits like "Tik Tok," Kesha harbored a secret: she was once an extra in the Oscar-winning film 'Dreamgirls'. The revelation, shared on a recent episode of 'The Jennifer Hudson Show,' has sent ripples of surprise through the entertainment world, highlighting the often-unpredictable paths to stardom.

During her appearance, Hudson mentioned that she and Kesha had almost crossed paths before. "I was an extra on Dreamgirls," Kesha admitted, leaving Hudson stunned. She described the experience as a 16-hour gig for $120, complete with "hair teased to the Gods." While Kesha expressed that she “hated” the experience, she showed reverence for the actual stars.

"You're gonna make me go rewind it back and try to spot you in the film, this is amazing," Hudson playfully responded, amused by the unexpected connection.

The film 'Dreamgirls', loosely based on the story of The Supremes, featured Hudson alongside Beyoncé and Anika Noni Rose as the Dreamettes. Hudson's portrayal earned her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, solidifying her place in Hollywood history.

Kesha's journey from background extra to chart-topping artist is a testament to perseverance. After 'Dreamgirls', she broke through with "Tik Tok" and several hit albums. She fondly spoke of that initial success to Hudson, also joking that she almost didn’t release the song because it sounded “too dumb”.

Now, Kesha is embarking on a new chapter as an independent artist with her own label, Kesha Records. Her upcoming album, 'Period,' marks a significant milestone, granting her full creative control over her music. "This is the first album that I have legal rights to my own voice," she shared, emphasizing the newfound freedom and joy in her work.

Kesha's resilience extends beyond her musical career. She previously navigated a challenging legal battle with her former producer, Dr. Luke, showcasing her determination to reclaim her artistic independence. Her recent releases, including "YIPPEE-KI-YAY" with T-Pain, "Delusional," and "Joyride," signal a vibrant and liberated Kesha ready to redefine her sound.
