HATEBREED Fallout: Chris Beattie Claims Lawyers Involved Following Unexpected Departure
The metalcore world is buzzing as former HATEBREED bassist Chris Beattie breaks his silence on his departure from the band in November 2024. What initially appeared as a mutual parting of ways has now taken a legal turn, adding a layer of complexity to a situation that has left fans reeling.
In a recent interview on The New York Hardcore Chronicles Live!, Beattie confirmed that his exit "wasn't his decision," stating that he is still restricted from disclosing the full details. This revelation has stirred up significant controversy, as Beattie was a founding member and a cornerstone of the band for three decades.
Unexpected Endings and Legal Battles
"We had just celebrated 30 years. It was awesome. Successful tour. Left on a high note," Beattie recalled. "And like I said before publicly, it was not my decision to leave the band. Someone saw an opportunity to get me out of the picture, and that's where I am now."
Beattie revealed that internal issues and questioning the band's direction led to friction. “Everything went really well that year, but there was stuff going on behind the scenes, and it became a chore to get in touch with anyone…I became a problem within the [organization].” This revelation has prompted speculation and debate within the metal and hardcore community regarding the circumstances surrounding his departure.
The situation has escalated to the point where attorneys are now involved. "We're trying to work it out. There's attorneys involved now. They're spending a lot of time having to deal with that and all the details of that. And I've gone back and forth," Beattie explained, indicating the seriousness of the dispute.
Moving Forward: New Projects on the Horizon
Despite the turmoil, Beattie is looking ahead, announcing new musical projects. He's teaming up with Scott Vogel of TERROR, and potentially fellow ex-HATEBREED members Sean Martin and Jamie Pushbutton. "It's kind of crazy when that happened [with Hatebreed]. A lot of people hit me up from other bands, big bands, touring bands, friends I've had… But that aside, my great friend Scott Vogel [Terror] hits me up one day, and he's, like, 'Let's do a band.'"

He also mentioned another project in the works with Karl Buechner from EARTH CRISIS and Anders Löwgren from AKANI, showcasing his commitment to staying active in the music scene. While a return to HATEBREED seems unlikely – "My time is done with HATEBREED… It's done. My family comes first. I'll leave it at that" – Beattie is determined to continue his musical journey.
A Legacy Unshaken
Despite the circumstances, Beattie remains respectful of his legacy with HATEBREED. "I don't wanna shit on the legacy of what I did. We made good music. We had great times together. Things changed. Dynamics changed." His words reflect a desire to preserve the positive aspects of his 30-year tenure, despite the sour ending.
