Guided By Voices Debunk Breakup Rumors, Announce New Album ‘Thick Rich And Delicious’

Reports of Guided By Voices' demise have been greatly exaggerated! Just when fans started to mourn the potential end of the indie rock stalwarts, the band has officially denied breakup rumors and, to sweeten the deal, announced a brand new album. Prepare yourselves for Thick Rich And Delicious, arriving just in time for Halloween.

The initial whispers of a split originated from an episode of Lou Barlow's RAW Impressions podcast. Guitarist Bobby Bare Jr.'s comments during the show sparked concerns, with fans interpreting his words as a confirmation that GBV was calling it quits. Adding fuel to the fire, the band hadn't scheduled any live performances since October 2024, with some reports suggesting that frontman Robert Pollard hinted at the Dallas show being their last.

However, before anyone could fully process the potential loss, GBV's team stepped in to set the record straight. Speaking to Rolling Stone, they confirmed that not only is the band not breaking up, but they're actively working on their 42nd album, Thick Rich And Delicious. Specific details about the album remain scarce, leaving fans eagerly anticipating more news.

It's worth noting that Guided By Voices has a history of breakups and reformations. The band initially disbanded in 2004, only to reunite in 2010, only to break up again in 2014, and finally reformed again in 2016. This history is most likely the reason the rumor mill took off so quickly.

Despite the on-again, off-again nature of the band, the current lineup, consisting of Robert Pollard, Bobby Bare Jr., Kevin March, Doug Gillard, and Mark Shue, has been remarkably consistent since 2016, churning out an impressive number of albums. Some critics regard the band's 2021 release, Earth Man Blues, as among their best work since 1995.

Their most recent album, Universe Room, released earlier this year, showcased the band's signature experimental sound, with Pollard describing it as “a wild ride.” The tracklist includes “Fly Religion” and “I Will Be a Monk.”

So, fear not, GBV enthusiasts! The band is alive and well and promising new music this Halloween. Does the announcement of Thick Rich And Delicious ease your worries about the band's future? Are you excited about the upcoming album?
