Fieldy’s Future with Korn: No Immediate Return, But Hope Remains?
The status of Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu with Korn remains a topic of much speculation and interest in the music community. The bassist, who stepped away from the pioneering nü-metal band in 2021, recently addressed his absence in an interview on The Dr. Greenthumb Show, hosted by Cypress Hill's B-Real. While the news isn't exactly what fans might be hoping for, it leaves the door slightly ajar for a potential return.
During the interview, when asked about the possibility of rejoining Korn for future shows, Fieldy stated, "I won't be playing any shows, but we'll see what tomorrow brings. You never know, but for now, no." This ambiguous response offers a glimmer of hope for fans eager to see him back on stage with the band.
Since 2021, Suicidal Tendencies' Ra Diaz has been filling in for Fieldy. While Diaz has undoubtedly been a solid replacement, Fieldy's unique bass style and clanky tone are undeniably iconic to Korn's sound.
Interestingly, Fieldy's relationship with his former bandmates seems somewhat distant. In a previous interview with Basement Talk, he mentioned that he hadn't spoken to any of the Korn members since 2019. "They're truckin'. They're a machine. They're going. It's insane. It's dope that they can keep on going like that. It's cool to see them keep on going, but I need to chill."
He also opened up about his eclectic taste in music, revealing, "I listen to so many genres of music that it depends on what genre... I'll start out in the morning with like gospel or contemporary Christian, then I'll go over to like smooth jazz, to jazz. And I guess later I'll go more into disco or techno. Then I get into 80s rock, and then I guess later I get into more aggressive metal, into hip hop, then more aggressive hip hop." He even surprised listeners by naming artists like Don Henley, Duran Duran, and David Bowie as being on his playlist.
Fieldy went on to say when asked about what kind of rock music he enjoys he mentioned, "For rock, for me they're the top. If you look in the dictionary, it says Metallica right there under rock. But if it's rock in the other genre, it's probably Foo Fighters."
The big question remains: what does the future hold for Fieldy and Korn? While a reunion isn't on the immediate horizon, Fieldy appears open to the possibility. Furthermore, with Korn potentially working on a new record in the future, will Fieldy or Diaz play bass on it? Whatever the case, the music world will be watching closely.
