Ed Sheeran, Dave Grohl, and John Mayer Unite for ‘Drive’ on F1 Soundtrack: A Musical Dream Team
In a surprising yet thrilling collaboration, Ed Sheeran has teamed up with rock legends Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters and blues virtuoso John Mayer for a new track titled "Drive." The song is slated to feature prominently on the soundtrack for the upcoming Apple Original Films release, F1, adding a high-octane musical backdrop to the highly anticipated racing film.
Sheeran himself teased the collaboration on Instagram, sharing a snippet of "Drive" and revealing that Mayer contributed guitar riffs while Grohl laid down the drum tracks. "A lot of fun making this, coming out next month with the movie x," Sheeran wrote, hinting at the exciting blend of musical styles. This unexpected trio promises a unique sound that bridges pop sensibilities with rock energy and bluesy flair.

The F1: The Album soundtrack is set to be a star-studded affair, featuring contributions from a diverse array of artists, including Doja Cat, Burna Boy, Raye, Tate McRae, Don Toliver, Madison Beer, Rosé of BLACKPINK, Tiësto, and Chris Stapleton. Two tracks have already been released: "Lose My Mind" by Don Toliver featuring Doja Cat, and "Messy" by Rosé. The diversity of the artist lineup reflects the global appeal of Formula 1 racing, and "Drive" is poised to be a standout addition.
The film, directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick), stars Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a retired racer making a comeback to help his former teammate (Javier Bardem). Damson Idris plays the rookie teammate, creating a dynamic storyline of experience versus raw talent amidst the cutthroat world of Formula 1. The raw energy of the sport will be amplified by the soundtrack, making 'Drive' a synesthetic experience.

In other news, Ed Sheeran is gearing up for the release of his new album, Play, on September 12th. Described as a response to a dark period in his life, Play promises a vibrant and joyful exploration of cultures he encountered while touring. He has already released singles "Azizam" and "Old Phone" from the upcoming album. Play is the first in a series of albums that will follow the tradition he has setup with Plus, Multiply, Divide, Subtract, and Equals.
Meanwhile, Foo Fighters have announced their first show of 2025 at the Singapore Grand Prix in October, while John Mayer continues his residency with Dead & Company at the Las Vegas Sphere.
With the release of "Drive" alongside the F1 movie, fans can anticipate an immersive experience where the worlds of music and motorsport collide. What are your thoughts on this collaboration? Let us know in the comments below!
