Dead & Company to Headline Grateful Dead 60th Anniversary Celebration in Golden Gate Park
Get ready, Deadheads! San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie has announced that Dead & Company will be playing a three-show weekend in Golden Gate Park on August 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, marking the centerpiece of the Grateful Dead's 60th anniversary celebrations. This highly anticipated event promises to be a massive gathering, drawing fans from near and far to honor the legacy of one of music's most influential bands.
The announcement, made earlier this week, has sent waves of excitement through the Dead community. Lurie, in a video filmed at Golden Gate Park, stated, "Dead & Co. Three shows. August 1, 2, and 3. Right here in the city that is the home of the home of the Grateful Dead. What better way to celebrate? We’ll see you out here."
According to KRON4, the concerts will be held at the Golden Gate Park Polo Fields, the same location where the band fostered a deep history. These shows are officially ticketed events, and expect a sell out, folks.

As one of the most enduring bands of the 1960s counterculture movement, the Grateful Dead became synonymous with San Francisco's vibrant music scene. Though contemporaries faded, the Grateful Dead persisted, touring through the decades and amassing a devoted following of "Dead Heads".
Dead & Company, featuring original Grateful Dead members Bob Weir and Mickey Hart, along with John Mayer on guitar, carries on the band's legacy. While bassist Phil Lesh sadly passed away in October, his contributions to the Grateful Dead remain unforgettable.
Mayor Lurie's office anticipates that the shows will draw up to 60,000 attendees each day. A similar event in 2023 generated $31 million in local economic activity, highlighting the significant impact these concerts have on the city. The Recreation and Park Commission is expected to approve the concert series, which is co-produced by Another Planet Entertainment and Live Nation in partnership with SF Rec and Parks.
While August 1st-3rd are THE days, several other events are planned around the Grateful Dead's 60th anniversary, including the annual Jerry Day concert in McLaren Park and the honorary renaming ceremony of Jerry Garcia Street. However, the Golden Gate Park shows featuring Dead & Company will certainly be the highlight of the summer for fans.
With the promise of a vibrant atmosphere, incredible music, and a celebration of a legendary band, the Grateful Dead's 60th-anniversary concerts in Golden Gate Park are set to be an unforgettable experience.
