Connoisseur Media Acquires Alpha Media: A New Powerhouse in Radio Broadcasting

The radio landscape is shifting as Connoisseur Media announces its acquisition of Alpha Media, a move set to create a top 10 U.S. radio group by station count and revenue. This strategic merger promises to combine the strengths of both companies, fostering a synergy between local community engagement and robust digital integration.

Jeff Warshaw, CEO of Connoisseur Media, expressed his enthusiasm about the deal, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome Alpha Media into the Connoisseur family. It has become clear that we share many of the same values — a passion for serving our local communities, a deep commitment to our clients, supporting our colleagues and fostering a culture of integrity, creativity and achievement.”

The combined entity will operate under the Connoisseur Media name, maintaining Warshaw as CEO. With 218 stations across 47 markets, the merger will reach approximately 20% of the U.S. population, encompassing key areas like San Antonio, Portland, and Salt Lake City. Notably, Alpha Media Portland includes popular stations such as FM News 101 KXL, LIVE 95.5, 987 The Bull, 101.9 KINK, Freedom 970, WE 102.9, and 750 The Game.

The acquisition also involves integrating Alpha Digital with Connoisseur’s Ferocious Digital platform, enhancing their digital marketing and services division. This move aligns with Alpha’s “live and local” operating philosophy and Connoisseur’s community-first approach.

Brigade Capital Management is financing the transaction. This investment firm, known for its focused approach and diverse credit strategies, boasts a history of involvement in the media sector.  They have previously held significant stakes in companies like Urban One, Cumulus Media, and iHeartMedia.

In Portland, three Alpha-owned stations demonstrated strong performance in the latest radio ratings, with KINK, KXL, and LIVE 95.5 securing top 10 spots.

The sale is currently awaiting FCC approval and is anticipated to finalize in the second half of 2025. Connoisseur Media is entering into a Local Marketing Agreement (LMA) to commence collaboration before the official closing.
