Chino Moreno of Deftones Reimagines The Cure’s ‘Warsong’ with Dystopian Remix
The Cure has unveiled a captivating remix of their song "Warsong" by Chino Moreno of Deftones, adding a unique and chilling twist to the original track. This collaboration is generating buzz among fans of both bands, solidifying their mutual respect and creative synergy.
The remix is part of The Cure's upcoming album, Mixes Of A Lost World, a collection of reimagined tracks from their 2024 album, Songs Of A Lost World. Other notable artists contributing to the remix album include Four Tet, Paul Oakenfold, Mura Masa, Mogwai, and Orbital.
Moreno's remix of "Warsong" offers a distinctly different interpretation, as described by Moreno himself: "I chose ‘Warsong’ to remix as it’s one of those slow-building, brooding musical pieces that have always drawn me into The Cure’s music. My idea with this remix was to strip it back slightly of its organic instrumentation and bring in ridged, mechanical percussion and some down-pitched vocals aimed to bring forth the cold/dystopic feel of the song while maintaining the core beauty of what existed."
This isn't the first time The Cure and Chino Moreno have collaborated. Robert Smith previously remixed Deftones' "Teenager" for their 'Black Stallion' remix album, and Smith also lent his vocals to Crosses' (Moreno's side project) track, "Girls Float + Boys Cry."
Mixes Of A Lost World is set to be released on June 13th via Fiction/Capitol Records. All of The Cure's recording royalties from the album will be donated to War Child UK. The album will be available in various formats, including 3 LP, 3 CD, and limited edition 3 MC (cassette) deluxe editions, as well as 2 LP, 2 CD, and 2 MC editions featuring only the Remixers tracks.
Songs Of A Lost World, The Cure's first album in 16 years, achieved significant success, reaching No. 1 in 15 countries and the top five in several others, including the U.S.
According to reports, a "companion piece" album to 'Songs Of A Lost World' is already prepared, and another album of "completely random stuff" is also in the works.
The upcoming release of Mixes of a Lost World showcases the enduring influence of The Cure and their willingness to explore new sonic landscapes through collaboration. Chino Moreno's remix serves as a compelling example, blending the signature styles of both artists into a dark and atmospheric creation.
